#828A Servo Automated Clamp Carrier

Servo-controlled automation that flattens and tightens every clamp to a precise, repeatable force, producing 10% more than our #80Z Automated Clamp Carrier

The #828A Servo Automated Clamp Carrier is the newest addition to Taylor's automated clamp carrier line. A servo-controlled robotic carriage indexes across the clamps on its own, flattening the stock and tightening each clamp to a precise, torque-controlled force. The operator loads the section, presses "Tighten," and is free to lay up the next batch at the Glue Applicator.

Features:

  • Produces up to 3850 ft2 / Shift
  • Standard Machine Features
    • Machine Frames Built to Match Product Dimensions
    • Taylor's Patented Clamp Design in Lengths to Meet your Needs
    • Servo-Controlled Automated Tightener with Three-Stage Adaptive Tightening
    • Servo-Controlled Traverse
    • Pneumatic Panel Flattener
    • Touchscreen Operator Terminal with Stored Presets
    • Electric Carrier Rotation, VFD Controlled
    • 270° Safety Scanner
  • Quick Adjust Rear Jaws for Fast Product Changeovers

(Additional Information and Specifications Below)

As with all Taylor Clamp Carriers, the #828A is built in the length and number of sections your production calls for, and smaller machines can be expanded as production requirements grow. Very little training is needed, and the routine maintenance the machine does need can usually be handled by the operator.

Production is based on cycle time and panel size. Assuming that each section is curing 3 panels whose dimensions are 24″ x 24″ (60cm x 60cm) and assuming a cycle time of 80 – 90 seconds, production per shift equals:

One Panel:
=4 ft2 (.36M2)

One Section:
=12 ft2 (1.1M2)

One Cycle:
=80 – 90 seconds
=40 – 45 cycles/hour
=320 – 360 cycles/shift

Production output:
=12 ft2 x 360 cycles or 4320 ft2/shift
=1.1 M2 x 360 cycles or 396 M2/shift

Servo Controlled Robotic Front End

The Taylor Servo Front End uses servo motors for both clamp tightening and traverse positioning, delivering smooth, accurate and repeatable clamping. Using sensors, the robotic carriage indexes across the series of clamps, stopping at each clamp arm to flatten and tighten the material while the operator is organizing the next batch for the Glue Applicator. Pneumatic flatteners ensure every panel is as flat as possible.

Servo Tightening

  • Each clamp is tightened with a three-stage adaptive sequence: initial run-down, intermediate dwell, and a final torque-controlled stall.
  • The torque-controlled stall delivers precise, consistent clamp force on every clamp.
  • The system continuously self-optimizes its speed and timing transitions, balancing cycle efficiency with stable, accurate force measurement.

Operator Terminal

The modern industrial touchscreen provides an intuitive interface for machine setup, diagnostics, and production adjustments. Operators can store multiple presets with customized clamp force settings for different wood species and product types, enabling instant changeovers with a simple tap on the screen or tightener controls.

Clamp Carrier Sections

Clamp Carriers are customizable in configuration and section count, allowing you to scale capacity to match your production requirements and glue cure times. Taylor's heavy-duty clamps adjust quickly and effortlessly to fit each gluing requirement, and quick adjust rear jaws make changing product sizes a breeze.

Electric Rotation Drive

A powerful and quiet electric motor rotates the Clamp Carrier from section to section. The 2HP motor with magnetic brake is VFD controlled for smooth operation, and rotation speed is fully adjustable from the Operator Terminal to optimize productivity.

270° Safety Scanner

A 270 degree safety scanner monitors the tightening and loosening area during operation.

  1. The operator removes glued panels from one section of the Clamp Carrier and refills the section with stock taken from the outfeed of the Glue Applicator
  2. The operator adjusts the quick adjust rear jaws of the clamps (if necessary), and presses the "Tighten" button. The machine does all the rest
  3. The operator is free to lay up stock and load the next batch onto the Glue Applicator
  4. The robotic carriage traverses the front rest on its own, using sensors to stop at every clamp arm, where it flattens the stock and tightens the clamp
  5. Once all clamps are tightened, the electric rotation drive indexes the Clamp Carrier to the next section, and the carriage automatically runs the loosening cycle
